IPE in allied health--community colleges

Is anyone aware of IPE activities involving allied health programs based in a two-year or community college environment? Any information or a brief overview would be of interest!

IPE in Community Colleges

This is a very late response to your inquiry. I just joined this group and stumbled on your question. The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) has undertaken an IPE initiative. We received a grant a couple of years ago to advance IPE within the 15 health care programs at CCBC. (http://www.ccbcmd.edu/About-CCBC/Newsroom/press-releases/2015/08/17/16/14/MHEC-grant.aspx) That grant has ended but we are continuing to incorporate IPE into our healthcare programs.

I would be interested in knowing if other community colleges have joined this effort since this original inquiry was made. The leadership for our IPE efforts is listed on the grant announcement link I have included. I am involved in the planning group but the Principle Investigators in that grant have a much more thorough perspective on the activities undertaken.

IPE in Community College Setting

Being from rural, southeastern NC, the community college system is an integral part of our core educational fabric. So I am very interested n introducing IPE in prelicensure health programs.

Question:

1. Have you tested any interventions and/or identified an evaluation tool?

Hello -

Northeast/central Pennsylvania Interprofessional Education Coalition (necpaipec.com) is a coalition of 11 colleges and universities. We have community colleges and 2 year programs as a part of our coalition. We have integrated paramedics, Xray technology, Nursing assistants, Dental hygenists, LPN's and RN's into the coalition. In our summit - see webiste - our case is designed to include all different disciplines. The medical students, PharmD students, PA students, NP students, speech language pathology, MSW, etc (all graduate level students) work on an even playing field with the students from all institutions (whether undergrad or community college) - it has really worked very well. You need strong leadership with a desire to work together with all players. Good luck!
