Dr. Bott has an extensive background in research and has been a research assistant professor since 2001. Her research over the past 15 years includes: Nurse managers, nurse retention, patient outcomes; Behaviors and cognitions for resisting the urge to smoke; Nursing Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and currently is a co-PI with Dr. Roma Lee Taunton on their NINR-funded study, Care planning integrity and nursing home resident outcomes; and she consults with other faculty who are studying other aspects of nursing home care as well as the aging population. She has also published numerous articles about her research, and is sought for her expertise in quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

In 2000, Dr. Bott received the Roma Lee Taunton Millennium Scholarship Award for demonstrating vision, innovation and leadership throughout her doctoral studies. She also earned the Outstanding PhD Award from the KU School of Nursing's Nursing Alumni Association.

Through her current positions as a KUMC Research Advisory Council Member, the School of Nursing Research Committee member and as a member of the Board of Directors for the KUMC Research Institute, Dr. Bott advocates the benefits of multi- and inter-disciplinary research among colleagues in schools and departments throughout KU. Dr. Bott represents the KU School of Nursing on several other interdisciplinary committeees throughout the KUMC campus. She is also a member of the Midwest Nursing Research Society and the Delta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, where she previously served as treasurer.
