David Gibbs, PhD is an Associate Professor & Chair of the Department of Health Informatics & Information Management at Texas State University. He transitioned to academia from corporate and government consulting in 2015 with over 30 years of information systems industry experience. His most recent decade of consulting focused on federal healthcare information systems and solutions architecture. Combining his background in computer science with graduate degrees in education, Dr. Gibbs develops and delivers graduate and undergraduate courses online and on campus in the areas of health informatics, health information systems, and leadership. His research agenda is focused on interprofessional health informatics and has been supported by external funding. He serves the AHIMA, AMIA, and HIMSS professional organizations on a variety of committees and working groups and has presented at their national conferences. He has been recognized as a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of HIMSS.
