My name is Kayla Benzinger and I am a 1st year DNP student in the Health Innovation and Leadership Specialty (HIL) at the University of Minnesota. I currently work in the Emergency Department at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Over the past ten years I have practiced nursing in California, New York and Minnesota within a collection of specialties. Although I love being a Pediatric ED Nurse, I have decided it is finally time to give attention to that voice inside me that absolutely needs to know "WHY?" I cannot stand idle envisioning “alternative ways of doing things" and be hushed because they are square-shaped and not round. 

One of my objectives in this program is to enhance my leadership skills to affect policy change and support my nursing colleagues through intra-professional transformation. I am especially passionate about helping nurses in recovery and am honored to serve as Vice-Chair of Nurses Peer Support Network (NPSNetwork). I assumed this position after volunteering as a founding member in the commencement of this non-profit organization in 2013. I sit as committee chair for the NPSNetwork Marketing, Communications and Outreach Committee, and am a co-convener for one of the four peer support meetings in Minnesota.
