Erin is a passionate advocate for improving healthcare environments. Trained as an architect and design researcher, she is pursuing her PhD in Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University to bridge design and patient care. Her research findings on healthcare environments and other settings have been published in Health Environments Research & Design Journal, The AIA Handbook of Professional Practice and the Journal of Nursing Administration, and she has presented widely. She received the prestigious AIA-AAH Tuttle Fellowship to study the impact of the built environment on interdisciplinary collaboration, and this year she received the U40 Award, recognizing her as “Healthcare Design’s Best Under 40”. Erin is active in giving back to the healthcare design community as a speaker, teacher and board member.

Current Focus: Teamwork, Patient Safety, Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Education, Design Thinking and Quality Improvement.

To lead future generations through a time of rampant change will require a more integrated, diverse and multi-faceted approach. Design thinking, a clinical approach and rigorous research backing will prepare us to address our nation's complex problems in new ways and collaborate to reach across traditional boundaries.
