I currently serve as Vice President of Interprofessional Education, Institutional Effectiveness, and the Health Education Center, a Professor in the Department of Nutrition Metabolism, and Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). I completed my undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After receiving my DDS at the UNC School of Dentistry in 1989, I completed a two-year General Practice Residency Program and third year as a fellow. Additionally, I completed a MPH with a focus on Health Policy and Administration and a PhD in Oral Biology. I have served in various roles previously including dean, chief academic officer, chair, chief of oral medicine, and director at Meharry Medical College, the UNC Adams School of Dentistry, and UNC Hospitals.
My work is focused on creating an educational environment that embraces Interprofessional Education (IPE) and team-based learning leveraging technology to provide increased opportunities for knowledge and skill development. Also, we have implemented a core IPE curriculum will enhance student didactic learning, practice experiences, and and community engagement.
