The Institute for Innovative Education (IIE) brings together URMC’s educational leaders to integrate technology and the science of learning into existing educational programming, as well as focus on future institutional efforts that prepare our learners to be healthcare professional leaders of tomorrow.
At the heart of this Institute is the development of inter-professional curricula, a state-of-the-art simulation center, and the adoption of new technologies. Advances in clinical and educational technology, coupled with broad national health care reforms, are dramatically changing how practitioners provide patient care. Increasingly, hospitals need practitioners who:
- Demonstrate clinical excellence
- Work within an integrated health care team
- Utilize evidence-based methodologies
- Are technologically competent
- Have high patient safety standards
- Focus on patient engagement and practice clinical efficiencies
URMC’s educational environment should prepare learners to function and lead in a diverse, heterogeneous society. External credentialing factors and evolving teaching methods also drive URMC’s need to transform their education. Development of the IIE allows URMC to comprehensively and efficiently meet these educational needs, enhancing URMC’s ability to provide high quality care as well as attract top students, trainees, staff and faculty.
