National Center launches Journal Club; welcomes all interested in interprofessional practice and education
On May 20,11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Central Time, National Center will host its first webinar-based Journal Club, an opportunity for those interested in interprofessional practice and education to discuss the immediate impact of recent research in the field. The Journal Club is open to anyone interested in the field – providers, practitioners, educators, policy makers, students, health system executives and many others.
“Conversations that engage both practice and education will help us learn together from the research, learn from each other and create better results for patients and for students,” commented Barbara Brandt, PhD, director, National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education. “That’s always much more powerful than just one group talking to itself.”
According to Nawal Lutfiyya, PhD, National Center senior research scientist and Journal Club coordinator, “We want to bring attention to the literature that currently exists. By generating conversations and thought about IPECP, we can hopefully inform the work people are now undertaking – in both practice and education”
In addition to stimulating conversation, the sessions will include interviews with eminent scholars in the forefront of the field. National Center’s first guest will be Scott Reeves, PhD, editor of the Journal of Interprofessional Care. The club will be discussing his 2011 article, “A scoping review to improve conceptual clarity of interprofessional interventions.”
“We know intuitively that interprofessional education and team-based care can improve outcomes for patients, but there’s not much evidence to help us understand why or what practices work best,” explains Lutfiyya. “Dr. Reeves’ review offers a framework, based on the current literature, for thoughtfully designing future interventions to help answer these questions.”
Through an agreement with the publisher, this article will be freely available from May 19 through mid-afternoon on May 21. Registrants will receive this link in all email communication related to the webinar.
Registration is now open for the first session, and space is limited. Watch for an announcement about future articles and webinar dates.
