The National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education is now accepting nominations for the 2019 George E. Thibault, MD Nexus Award.

This award celebrates exemplary interprofessional practice in the US and those who are thinking and acting differently where education and practice connect in health and health care.

The award recognizes an educational institution, health system, clinic, and/or community organization for extraordinary contributions to the Nexus– linking health professions education and interprofessional practice to transform care delivery, improve health outcomes, and decrease costs.

Application and Selection Process

Submissions are being accepted for the 2019 Nexus Award.

Applications and supporting materials are submitted online.

The deadline for submission is Friday, May 31.

Criteria

  • The initiative or practice model must demonstrate key elements of the 2019 Nexus Summit themes, such as:
    • Optimizing the Interprofessional Clinical Learning Environment
    • Aligning Education and Practice for Workforce Transformation and Health System Change
    • Quality Interprofessional Education and Accreditation
    • Integrating Patients and Families in Interprofessional Practice and Education
    • The initiative or practice model must have two years of operational experience (as of April 1, 2019).
       
  • A representative of the initiative or practice model must be able to attend Nexus Summit 2019 on August 18-20 in Minneapolis and share highlights from the initiative or practice model in a plenary presentation on August 20 during the Nexus Award Celebration at the Summit (representative will receive free admission to entire Summit conference).

Selection Process

The National Center Awards Subcommittee will review all completed applications and select a recipient.

Notification

The award recipient will be notified no later than June 21, 2019.

Award Benefit

There will be two awards - one for Local and one for National. Each will receive:

  • $2500 monetary award
  • One complimentary registration to the Nexus Summit 2019
  • One complimentary registration to the Nexus Summit 2020

Application (maximum of five pages, single spaced, 1-inch margins and 11-point font) must include the following:

  • Purpose statement for the initiative or practice model

  • Brief history (including inception date) of the initiative, practice model, and identification of key stakeholders within the initiative

  • Description of the initiative or practice model to include

    • How the initiative or practice model functions

    • How the key elements listed under Criteria are reflected

    • Evidence of impact
