Series Description:
The Nexus Summit Seminar Showcase is a free webinar series from the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education. The Seminar Showcase features the highest-rated peer-reviewed seminars offered during last year’s annual conference, the Nexus Summit 2024, and covers topics drawn from the Nexus Summit 2024 themes, presenting this excellent content to our entire audience for the first time. Offered between February - June 2025, the Nexus Summit Seminar Showcase will provide an opportunity to learn from, with, and about the work being done to improve practice, education and health for those we serve.
Abstract:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to impact interprofessional education and collaborative practice by enabling personalized learning paths, enhancing communication among diverse professional groups, and facilitating more effective, data-driven decision-making. Busy leaders of interprofessional education programs must have opportunities to explore AI tools, which hold promise for streamlining administrative tasks, personalizing learning, and optimizing outcomes, allowing them to manage their demanding roles and time more efficiently.
During this seminar, session leaders will present and demonstrate three specific uses of AI at different universities to advance their work related to interprofessional education, including ChatGPT and other large language models for student role play of difficult team/patient conversations, for program evaluation, and as a component of learner team interactions. Available AI tools will be discussed and demonstrated. Participants will be directed in hands-on activities to practice use of AI tools. Utilizing Jamboard, participants will generate additional uses cases for AI after engaging in brainstorming and discussion of how AI is and could be used within their IPE programming. Participants will leave the session having gained actionable skills in utilizing large language models like ChatGPT to apply to their existing IPE programming.
Specific learning objectives include:
- Learners will be able to describe opportunities to utilize AI and large language models in relation to interprofessional work.
- Learners will be able to explain how the construction of prompts for large language model platforms is foundational to AI output.
- Learners will identify one opportunity for application of use of large language models to an existing aspect of their IPE programming.
