AGS Position Statement: Resource Allocation Strategies and Age-Related Considerations in the COVID-19 Era and Beyond
This position statement and companion article represent the official policy position of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) in regard to COVID-19. The statement is intended to inform stakeholders including hospitals, health systems, and policymakers about ethical considerations to consider when developing strategies for allocating scarce resources during an emergency involving older adults. Music on Our Minds: The Rich Potential of Music to Promote Brain Health and Mental Well-Being
This report from the Global Council on Brain Health (GCBH), a collaborative of scientists, health professionals, scholars and policy experts convened by the AARP, examines the latest evidence on how music influences brain health. Although more research is needed, the GCBH issue experts have concluded that listening to and making music holds significant potential to support brain health as people age. The GCBH has adopted ten recommendations for individuals to incorporate music into their lives to promote mental well-being, increase social connection, and stimulate thinking skills.
Medication Safety in Older Adults
This webinar (39:16 minutes) given by Dr. Nicole J. Brandt, Executive Director of the Peter Lamy Center Drug Therapy and Aging at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, discusses updates regarding medication safety in older adults. Dr. Brandt provides an overview of medication safety initiatives as well as tools to assist with deprescribing. Finally she discusses recent medicatoin safety and literature updates.
