This print module from the Montana Geriatic Education Center discusses the basic issues which surround health screening in the geriatric population. It distinguishes between the different levels of disease prevention, and states where screening of diseases fits into the preventative plan. Specific topics covered include govenmental initiatives that focus on maintaining the health of older adults, current recommendations for health screening, strategies to overcome patient-related barriers includning geriatric screening, and strategies for managing potential emergencies during geriatric health screening. In addition, the differences between accuracy and precision and specifity and sensitivity are discussed. Teaching materials include pre-and post-test questions, assessment tools instructions, and additional web resources.
